Some information about services:

As you know from the invitation, the service begins at 9:00 am. Most congregants arrive after the preliminary portion around 9:30 am. Clothing should be modest and somewhat dressy, i.e. short or long sleeves (no spaghetti straps) and skirts at a reasonable length, no jeans, t-shirts or sneakers. As a sign of respect and awareness of God’s presence, all men and boys, Jewish and non-Jewish, are expected to wear a kippah (also yarmulke; head covering). Women and girls also choose to wear a kippah or other head covering, but it is not required. A basket with kippot (plural of kippah) is located outside the door of the sanctuary. 

Although much of the service will be in Hebrew, there are English translations for everything, and the rabbi will frequently refer to pages in the prayer books so that everyone may follow along. It is not necessary for you to recite prayers, however, there will be times when everyone in the congregation is asked to stand. Since it is a long service, anyone is welcome to leave the sanctuary for a break at any time.

All guests and participants are expected to respect the sanctity of the prayer service and Shabbat by setting your cell phone or beeper to vibrate or turning it off, not taking pictures, not smoking in the synagogue or on the grounds and not writing or recording tapes.

Masking is optional, except in Section A of the sanctuary, where it is required. Those who are asked to stand on the bima (podium) for blessings or reading torah must wear a mask while on the bima.

The service will end at around Noon. A lunch will be served in the social hall afterwards.
